Booster Days Success
Thank you to everyone who made this year's Booster Days a huge success. The weather was hot and wonderful. There were huge turnouts for both the Maroszek Polka Band and for the Twerps. The softball tournament won by Cameron House over Burdy's. It was a very competitive tournament throughout the 3 days. There were 14 teams total and several more that are interested already for next year. The kickball tournament was won by the Blue Ballers over Prestige Ballerz Inc. There was 7 teams in the kickball tournament and it was a tremendously fun time had by all. The volleyball tournament was won by Porky's Bar with a total of 6 teams entered. The bean bag tournament was won by Dave Kuffel and Jason Leu with a total of 11 teams entered in that tournament. The 5K run drew 80 registrants with Terry WIlloughby winning the men's run with a time of 22:04 and Jodee Whittenberger winning the Women's run with a time of 25:18 with a total of 80 registrants.
Besides the competitions there was also the craft fair, parade, paper plate drop, pancake breakfast, polka mass (which drew around 400 attendees). The chuch chicken dinner which served over 400 customers, the firemen chicken dinner which served over 760 pounds of chicken, and the pancake breakfast. Thank you to everyone who made this year's event a huge success. There were 62 people that worked in the food stand or food ticket booth, 55 people who worked in the beer stand or beer ticket booth, vounteer umpires, referees, 50/50 raffle ticket sellers, Booster Day button sellers, parade organizers and judges, race volunteers, and countless other volunteers who helped pick up, take down, and do all the little things that are needed for an event of this magnitude. Zumba Offerings
Zumba will be held Mondays and Wednesdays for the remainder of August starting this Monday, August 13. The class is free. There will be a donation jar if you would like to donate a $1. Come and join other community members for an hour of dancing and exercise. Questions please contact Brett Ridout 715-642-0335.
New Welcome Signs
There is a sign just like this one hanging from each of the street lights on main street.
Garden Area
The Weyerhaeuser Garden Club created this beautiful shaded area located between Steven's Lumber Mill and the caboose. Check it out the next time you are in Weyerhaeuser.
Water Tower Face Lift
The water tower recently got a face lift. It is now a new shade of green rather than the old faithful silver. It was quite a site to watch how the tower was painted. It looked like one rickety old wooden platform hooked on to one cable. The man on the platform would crawl himself around the tower painting.
New Beer Cooler and Bar
The old beer cooler and bar have been removed and in their place a beautiful new pine sided cooler and bar have been built. The community got together to help and Huiras Construction completed the project. The cooler has been moved in several feet, so bartenders don't have to walk outside to get into the cooler. Also, beer dispensers will be added to the bar so bartenders will no longer have to dip their hands in the cold buckets of ice to get beer. The project really does add a lot to the pavillion and park's appearance.
Playground Equipment Fixed
The playground equipment has needed an overhaul for several years. The Weyerhaeuser Fire Dept. made this improvement happen. Bolts have been replaced and tightened, new chains have replaced the broken, rusted ones. New boards have replaced the decaying, unstable boards, the tube slide has been fixed, and the whole apparatus received a new coat of stain. Bring the kids up and check it out.
Booster Days 5K
Last year's 5K was a big success and I hope this year's event will continue to grow. The entry form for this year's run is below this picture. Simply click on the link and print out the form. Send it in by August 21 to receive the early bird discount. The course is very flat and very fast. All entrants receive a Booster Day's T-shirt and a coupon for a chicken dinner. This combination would cost you $16.50 seperately, but if you register for the race by August 21 you get both for $15. The 2013 Weyerhaeuser Alumni Basketball/Volleyball Tournament will be held on March 2, 2013. We hope to get a great turnout for the upcoming year. If you would like to hold a class reunion at this time, that may be a very convenient opportunity. Also if you know graduates please let them know the date of the alumni tournament. For more information on the tournament, please contact Brett Ridout at ridout@indianheadtel.net. We would like to make this a big event and any help locating graduates or ideas for entertainment afterwards would be appreciated.
